Defer registering your LPA and save £30
12 March 2009
Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPA) forms are to be made cheaper and simpler, a specialist lawyer has announced.
Suzanne Evans, an elderly client solicitor in national law firm Shoosmiths’ private client team, believes the revamping of the forms will make a significant difference to consumers’ pockets.
An LPA is a legal document that enables people who are worried for their mental capability, or those who want to plan for such a time, to appoint someone they trust to make any decisions on their behalf.
As of 1 April 2009 the fee charged by The Office of the Public Guardian for registering an LPA will be reduced from £150 to £120, bringing it in line with the fee charged to register Enduring Powers of Attorney.
Evans said: "Decision-making in these turbulent times is difficult, and so it's positive to see The Public Guardian responding to feedback and making changes to the level of fees and usability of the forms."
