Second time around as Shoosmiths wins RoSPA award
18 May 2009
Shoosmiths has scooped a remarkable RoSPA award double.
The national law firm won the top national honours at The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents Occupational Health and Safety Awards 2009.It beat tough competition to take the Commercial and Business Services Industry Sector award – for the second time in four years, having won the same accolade in 2006.
The award is presented to organisations and businesses for ‘demonstrating consistent excellence in health and safety performance’.
Shoosmiths received its trophy at a glittering ceremony attended by more than 800 guests, at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre,
Partner and regulatory specialist Ron Reid, who heads Shoosmiths Occupational Safety (SOS), said: “To win this highly prestigious award for a second time in four years is a remarkable achievement.
“There were a record number of entries this year, and competition was fierce.
“People came up to me afterwards and asked how Shoosmiths has managed to do it once, let alone twice.
“It’s down to determination, sheer hard work, and our people’s recognition that health and safety is an important part of how we operate on a daily basis. It’s also a perfect example of how an organisation practices what it preaches.
“Ensuring the health and safety of our own employees – then being acknowledged for it – gives clients another reason to have confidence in the advice we offer them.”
The RoSPA Awards recognise organisations that have good health and safety management systems in place, as well as promoting the reduction of accidents and ill-health at work. They are sponsored by The National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health, the leading health and safety examining body.
