Businesses urged to stay ahead of employment law changes

Businesses have been urged to stay on top of significant changes to employment law, including the repeal of the statutory dispute resolution procedures.

So to help them, leading international recruitment consultancy Robert Walters and national law firm Shoosmiths teamed-up to host a seminar on key issues.

It focused on common problems employers are facing in the downturn as they strive to reduce employment-related costs.

There was also an 'update' session that looked at recent employment cases and new legislation that has implications for businesses.

Delegates saw how legal requirements and best practice can be applied to help them deal with real life issues and common scenarios, as well as practical tips for avoiding or, if necessary, dealing with problems.

Shoosmiths partner and employment specialist Rebecca Sawbridge said: “This year has seen hugely significant changes to employment law, and it’s absolutely vital that businesses stay ahead of them if they’re not to fall victim to them. This seminar helped them to do that.”

Jo Wake, director of HR recruitment at Robert Walters, said: “It may be tempting in a recession for businesses to push employment law down their list of priorities, but they mustn’t. Those who are up-to-speed will be the ones that emerge from the downturn in the best possible shape.”
