Database of serial litigants now live
22 December 2009
For a fee, respondents facing employment tribunal claims can now find out if the claimant has previously won or lost other employment cases.
The useful new website Serial-litigants.com is overseen by Damian McCarthy, a barrister of Cloisters Chambers and Gordon Turner, a solicitor at Partners Employment Lawyers.
For a flat fee of £99 plus VAT you can order a search of decisions (note that this is temporarily discounted to £50 plus VAT, and £5 plus VAT for each tribunal decision obtained) to find out if your opponent has brought similar claims in the past.
Armed with information about other claims there could be opportunities for achieving a successful outcome. Some serial-litigants simply drop their case once confronted with the knowledge that the respondent is aware of all their previous claims.
