Shoosmiths to provide English Heritage legal advice
26 February 2010
Shoosmiths is to provide full service legal advice to English Heritage.
The national law firm has been appointed the only full service adviser following a competitive tender. The first-time appointment will see it provide advice on a wide range of issues, including commercial contracts, employment, procurement, construction, and planning.
Client relationship partner and planning specialist Kirsten Hewson led the tender team, which pitched Shoosmiths against 56 others law firms striving for a panel place.
Hewson said: "We’re delighted to have been chosen by English Heritage. We recognise the importance and value of the work it does, and we’re looking forward with huge enthusiasm to forging a close and productive working relationship."
The three-year appointment begins on 1 March.
English Heritage legal director Mike Harlow said: “We are delighted to appoint Shoosmiths to the panel. They showed an impressive enthusiasm and understanding for our business during the tender process.”
The Government’s statutory adviser on the historic environment, English Heritage is perhaps best known for the 411 historic sites it looks after for the public. Less well known is its strategic role as the Government’s statutory adviser on the wider historic environment, including historic buildings, archaeological remains and conservation areas.
