Shoosmiths hoping for RoSPA award hat-trick
24 March 2010
Shoosmiths could scoop a hat-trick of prestigious RoSPA awards.
The national law firm has been nominated for one of The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents Occupational Health and Safety Awards 2010, having already won last year and in 2006.It will find out whether it has notched a third at a ceremony at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre, on 13 May.
Last year Shoosmiths won the Commercial and Business Services Industry Sector award for a second time, after ‘demonstrating consistent excellence in health and safety performance’.
The RoSPA Awards recognise organisations that have good health and safety management systems in place, as well as promoting the reduction of accidents and ill-health at work.
As well as ensuring the health and safety of its own employees, Shoosmiths has a strong occupational safety offering for its clients.
Partner and regulatory specialist Ron Reid heads Shoosmiths Occupational Safety (SOS), and previously advised the Health and Safety Executive on complex matters, giving him insight into the enforcement process and the major causes of health and safety prosecutions.
Reid said: “We’d love to retain the award, which is the highest competitive award for our sector, and it’ll be a huge achievement if we do, as there are some impressive nominees out there.
“Winning it twice in four years was quite something in itself, and testament to all the hard work put in by
our health and safety liaison manager Amanda Burditt, consultant Alan Jones, and the health and safety teams in each of our offices.”
The RoSPA Awards are sponsored by The National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health, the leading health and safety examining body.
