Ian has over 25 years’ experience in all aspects of non-contentious construction and engineering law providing advice in both the public and private sectors from inception to completion and as such  he has a wide understanding of the range of construction issues that can arise.

As a member of the firm’s Real Estates group he is used to working as part of a multidisciplinary team and has had day to day exposure to the processes required to deliver often complex and high value projects successfully on time and within budget.

He has experience with all major industry standard form contracts (SBCC, JCT, NEC and FIDIC) contracts as well as bespoke contracts and has continually demonstrated that he has a deep understanding of the range of issues that can arise throughout the design and construction period.

Prior to joining Shoosmiths, Ian was co-head of construction (Scotland) for international law firm CMS.

Schemes he has worked on include Edinburgh Trams, the St James Quarter in Edinburgh, student accommodation and PRS developments across the UK, commercial developments, energy and infrastructure schemes, projects for several universities and other project sector bodies, a number of projects with Opportunity North East in Aberdeen, and utility contracts for electricity and water.
