Sophie is a Principal Associate in the Banking and Finance team based in the Thames Valley. Sophie undertakes a range of debt finance work, including general corporate lending and leverage and property finance, acting for both borrowers and lenders. Sophie has experience advising on regional, national and cross border transactions (with a particular emphasis on developing markets).
Sophie's recent deal experience includes:
- acting for a private education provider in relation to its multi-million-pound facilities provided by a club of financial institutions;
- advising a care home operator in relation to its £35,500,000 facilities provided by National Westminster Bank plc;
- acting for a lender in relation to its multi-million-pound facilities to a dental group to support its buy-and-build strategy; and
- acting for British International Investment plc, the UK's development finance institution, in relation to its USD 23,000,000 facilities to RFL Electronics Limited to finance the expansion of a home appliances manufacturing unit in Bangladesh.
Sophie commenced her training contract with Shoosmiths in September 2015 and qualified into the Banking team in March 2017.
In 2021/2022, Sophie completed a six-month secondment in the Growth & Leveraged Finance team at Investec Bank plc, assisting in the provision of debt facilities in mid-market UK and European leveraged finance transactions.
