Shoosmiths recruits new corporate team in Manchester
28 July 2010
Shoosmiths has added a corporate team to its Manchester office with the recruitment of a partner and two associates from Halliwells.
Partner Mark Dawson and associates Karen Procter and Alex Laver join the firm with immediate effect.Dawson joined Halliwells as an associate in 2004 from DLA in Leeds and was promoted to partner in 2008 in the North West private equity team.
He specialises in corporate finance with a specific focus on private equity investment and related matters including management buy-ins/buy-outs, equity and debt refinancing, portfolio acquisitions and disposals and mergers and acquisitions.
Dawson’s experience includes acting for a broad range of private equity houses, institutional investors, investee companies, management teams and high net worth investors.
Shoosmiths chairman Andrew Tubbs said: “This recruitment is in line with the firm’s strategy of growing the Manchester office to full service from our initial focus on services for lenders and more recently, on our consumer services with the appointment of personal injury partner Debra Woolfson.
“Mark’s well respected private equity business in the north complements our successful southern private equity team lead by partner Sean Wright. We are delighted to have recruited such a high quality trio of lawyers who are all well known in the Manchester market.”
Dawson commented: “After initial discussions with other law firms, we chose to join Shoosmiths because of the quality of the people we met there and the dynamic and open culture of the firm. The opportunity of building a corporate team for Shoosmiths in Manchester is an exciting prospect.”
This appointment takes the number of corporate partners in Shoosmiths to 15, based in six of its eight offices.
Shoosmiths corporate team recently advised client Fortis (UK) on the acquisition of the insurance broking arm of motor repairer Kwik-Fit for around £215m in a deal which, subject to regulatory approval, will give Fortis (UK) – to be renamed Ageas, next year – 600,000 extra retail customers on top of its existing one million.
