Lawyer to Lawyer Referral Scheme

Shoosmiths offers a scheme under which you can refer work or enquiries which you are unable to deal with.

If accepted, our specialists will provide expert legal assistance to a client or an enquiry which falls outside your own core practice areas. We can also help where you are conflicted or lack capacity to handle a particular job.  We believe the client and both firms can benefit from such an arrangement.  There is no place for dabbling in today’s complex and competitive landscape.

If there is an opportunity to refer suitable enquiries out to our members firms, we will try to do so.

Our commitment to you

We will always recognise your interests with our non-poaching promise. If any further work arises beyond the subject of the referral, we will recommend that the client talk to you in the first instance to see whether you can help them.  

For any work we take on referral from you, we pay a fee share on receipt of costs. The only exception is in legal aid cases where the LSC contract prohibits referral fees. If we refer a work enquiry to you, you do not have to pay us a fee share.

Joining the network

We believe in providing the best legal answers with the least hassle. To reflect this membership is free, flexible, has no minimal referral requirement and no contract to sign. We are simply here when you need us to offer valued legal services for both commercial and consumer clients.

Benefits

It’s not just about referrals. We understand that law firms come in all shapes and sizes, but not all lawyers have the benefit of a team of specialist colleagues to support them. From time to time you may find it useful to discuss a difficult point or unusual case with one of our lawyers. We are always happy to talk to you and try to help resolve a problem, even if it does not result in a referral.

We also offer a programme of CPD accredited training seminars, which, as members, you and your colleagues may attend as often as you wish, free of charge. Each update qualifies as 3 CPD points, unless otherwise stated.

With legislation changing and new case law regularly reported, we will keep you updated with bulletins, newsletters and a weekly library email update.

We have a transparent approach to fees and offer fixed costs for many of our legal services as well as offering CFA’s in suitable cases. Our lawyers are specialists in their field offering a wealth of practical knowledge and expertise whilst recognising the needs of the client.
