Entertainment licensing
Premises licences are increasingly difficult to obtain, yet all too easy to lose (or have removed) - and every day’s lost trading means lost revenue, while restrictions on trading can be disastrous for your business.
Many businesses are unaware that they need licences, not just to sell alcohol, but also to play music (to staff or on telephone lines), to host events, and to serve late night refreshments of the non-alcoholic variety.
Our team is experienced in advising on all aspects of the application of the Licensing Act 2003, its associated guidance, subsequent legislation, and the way in which local authorities apply the Act.
We specialise in providing a full licensing management service to clients, covering: applications, reviews/underage sale challenges and payment of the annual fee, together with storage of original licences and provision of certified copies.
We also advise responsible authorities, including the police, and therefore have the benefit of knowing how both sides look at the problem when dealing with applications and appeals. In particular, our experience includes:
- applications for new or variations of existing licences
- dealing with representations and negotiating conditions to the satisfaction of all stakeholders
- supporting clients in preparing for and attending licensing sub-committee hearings
- advising regarding licence appeals and reviews
- assistance in preparing operating schedules and compliance schemes
- transfers of existing Premises Licences or applications to change the Designated Premises Supervisor
- advising businesses, DPSs, personal licence holders and employees who have failed test purchase operations on the criminal implications at interview under caution
- advising on the swift transfer of licences in the event of insolvency of the licence holder to allow continued trading by the administrator
- advising clients on the requirements for a TEN and making the same application
We are also recognised in the main legal directories - Legal 500 and Chambers - as a leading national firm in this area.
You have spent a long time obtaining your licences, so if they are essential to your business, let us look after them and make sure you don’t lose them!
