Image rights
“Image rights” is the collective term used to describe the right that an individual holds in their name, reputation or personality to prevent unauthorised commercial use of the same.
Although the UK does not (yet) have a codified law on image rights, this has not stymied the significant growth in this area of the law. As celebrity culture has grown in recent years, particularly on-screen and in the sports domain, so has its sophistication in dealing with various rights which can protect ones image to yield significant financial returns.
Complex product endorsement deals or “assignments” of image rights to specialist promotional companies are now common place in the world of celebrities and our team of leading lawyers, described as “the legal label to die for”, advises in all areas of the protection, exploitation and enforcement of image rights.
