The list, compiled by the Financial Times in partnership with Statista, recognises European companies that have made the most progress in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and strengthening climate-related commitments. This independent research differs from many awards that require submissions or entry fees as it is based on publicly available data, verified by a third party.
Recognised alongside our clients
The list features around 600 companies from across Europe, spanning sectors such as manufacturing, infrastructure, consumer goods and professional services, including many of our clients.
This matters. It shows that we are not only advising on the transition to a low carbon economy but also delivering progress on our own footprint alongside the businesses we support. It reinforces our position as a trusted adviser, helping clients navigate complex sustainability challenges with clarity and confidence.
One of only a handful of law firms recognised
This is a significant achievement for the firm because while the list includes businesses from across all sectors, professional services forms a relatively small proportion. Within that group, only three law firms are represented, including Shoosmiths.
Shoosmiths ranking reflects the pace and consistency of our emissions reduction and wider climate action as market leading.
What sits behind the recognition
The Climate Leaders methodology focuses primarily on reductions in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions intensity over time, alongside factors such as transparency and climate targets.
Our inclusion reflects:
- sustained reduction in operational emissions
- science based targets aligned to 1.5°C
- continued investment in credible decarbonisation activity
- a broader commitment to responsible business
Recognition in the Financial Times Climate Leaders list is not the end point. It is a signal that we are moving in the right direction, and complements the multiple recent awards we have won on ESG from Legal500, Sustainable Times and LegalESG.
