Jonathan joined Shoosmiths in April 2017 having trained at Pitmans Law (now Broadfield) and following a 22 year career in retail/IT. Jonathan advises employers and trustees on the law relating to occupational pension schemes. Jonathan's recent experience:
- Risk transfer projects including: document analysis and preparation, reviewing insurer terms and conditions and guiding schemes through post buy-in actions to winding up.
- Advice on scheme surpluses and supporting trustees on legal issues arising out of negotiations with scheme sponsors.
- Pensions aspects of corporate transactions, with a focus on automatic enrolment compliance.
- Supporting employers with automatic enrolment, rectifying past problems and ensuring future compliance.
- Internal dispute resolution procedure and ombudsman cases on a wide range of disputes including a challenge by a member on pension increases and benefit misquotes.
- Providing advice and support on benefit rectification issues, including initial investigations and advice on historic processes and benefits, reviewing member communications and advising on the treatment of under- and over-payments.
Jonathan is a member of the Association of Pension Lawyers.
