Nichola has spent significant time working in the life sciences and healthcare industries, including with a leading global supplier of digital healthcare solutions. With a background in manufacturing engineering, Nichola is able to apply her technical knowledge, combined with over 20 years of legal experience, to provide expert advice to her clients in the exploitation of their ideas, inventions, designs, and technology.

Nichola is passionate about new technology and innovation in the life sciences and healthcare sector. She works closely with companies across the whole innovation ecosystem, including FTSE 100 and global healthcare companies, SMEs with market-leading medical technology, and research-intensive charities and universities. She advises clients in relation to:

  • research and development agreements;
  • collaboration and consortium agreements;
  • funding arrangements for medical research and innovation;
  • licensing, joint ventures, revenue sharing agreements, and spin-outs in the life sciences industry; and
  • supply and manufacturing agreements for medical devices and pharmaceuticals.

Nichola also advises clients in relation to branding and marketing, including the protection and licensing of trade marks, trade dress, get-up, and social media.

Examples of Nichola’s work include:

  • a long term secondment with a leading charity engaged in the acceleration of life science for rare diseases and global health challenges, through funding, partnerships, and scientific and commercialisation support;
  • advising a clinical-stage R&D infectious disease specialist in relation to an exclusive patent and know how licence for the advancement of a particular compound through clinical development and commercialisation in India;
  • advising a biotech firm in the evaluation and commercialisation of a novel device which uses low energy radio waves to rapidly increase cell protein production;
  • working closely with the Commercialisation and IP department of a Russell Group University, acting as an extension of their legal team in the drafting and negotiation of a number of IP commercialisation agreements including in relation to life sciences.
