Specialist in commercial litigation and complex insolvency matters
I’m a Partner and Joint Head of Shoosmiths’ Dispute Resolution and Litigation team in Scotland, leading our Scottish commercial litigation practice.
I advise on a range of commercial disputes and have well over 20 years' experience acting for clients in corporate, contractual, insolvency, and property related disputes. I have particular experience in managing disputes arising out of corporate and commercial transactions, from breach of warranty and contract claims to shareholder disputes.
I also regularly advise insolvency practitioners, companies and directors on all aspects of insolvency law. I have acted in a number of high profile insolvency cases, including the leading case on whether liquidators in Scotland have the power to disclaim onerous property. In January 2024, I was appointed as Chair of the Edinburgh Insolvency Discussion Group.
I am also a Solicitor Advocate with rights of audience in the Court of Session and the Supreme Court and have considerable experience acting for and appearing on behalf of clients in the Court of Session, the Sheriff Court, the Land Court, and the Lands Tribunal.
I am regularly asked to speak at external events and conferences on topics including insolvency and commercial litigation. In 2018 and 2021, I presented at the WS Society Commercial Dispute Resolution Conference. In September 2025, I presented the Corporate Insolvency Legal Update for the fourteenth year at the ICAS Insolvency & Restructuring Conference.
I’m also a Writer to the Signet and am Signet Accredited in Commercial Litigation.
