Thomas Brown is a dual qualified Partner ( England and Wales and New York) in our Commercial Team with extensive experience and specialist expertise in financial technology, payments, and crypto and digital assets including cross border payments, the launch of complex global payments products, all forms of Fintech contracting such as acquiring, processing and partnering agreements, assisting to obtain financial licenses and regulatory permissions (EMI licenses) and advising on crypto, stable coin and digital currencies.  
 
Prior to joining Shoosmiths, Thomas spent over 18 years practising in-house and with senior leadership and global executive roles at blue chip fintech companies Worldpay and PayPal.   Earlier in is career, Thomas served in the legal teams of card processor TSYS, Accenture, and in private practice with Addleshaw Goddard and Pinsent Masons.
 
Thomas heads up our Payments practice, and is a leading expert in the Fintech industry having led both the PayPal and Worldpay Legal teams to win the Lawyer In-House Banking and Finance Team of the Year Award (2014 and 2022).  His other awards include Legal 500 In-house Technology Team of the Year and FT Innovative Legal Team of Year.  
 
Thomas has extensive experience advising on Fintech corporate transactions (including the demerger of PayPal from eBay) and  assisting clients to scope and structure  strategically important global payment products, commercial arrangements, gain regulatory permissions and deal with regulatory change in the Payments Industry.,
