Planning expert with deep public sector and CPO insight
I’m a Senior Professional Support Lawyer in Shoosmiths’ planning team, bringing over 25 years’ experience in planning law and infrastructure delivery. I support our lawyers with legal updates, training and know-how, with a particular focus on compulsory purchase (CPO), regeneration and large-scale infrastructure. I recently advised on the delivery of two garden suburbs in Calderdale, unlocking 3,000 new homes.
Before joining Shoosmiths in 2021, I was a partner at a national firm and previously held senior roles in local government, including City Solicitor and Monitoring Officer at Leeds City Council. My public sector background gives me a unique perspective on planning law and policy, especially in relation to governance, enforcement and development strategy.
I’m a Legal Associate of the Royal Town Planning Institute and a regular contributor to the Town and Country Planning Association. I write a monthly column on legal issues and am passionate about making planning law accessible and practical.
