Development lawyer delivering strategic land solutions
I’m a partner in Shoosmiths’ Real Estate team, specialising in commercial development, funding and strategic land. I'm the national head of the firm's real estate development group and co-lead our Mobility, Logistics and Manufacturing Sector.
I advise developers, investors and occupiers on forward-funded, pre-let schemes, often in the logistics and industrial sectors. I also have a wealth of experience acting on large-scale strategic schemes involving both residential and commercial elements - often involving land assembly, promotion, servicing and phased disposal - with all the legal and practical complexities they involve.
My recent work includes:
- acting for Stoford on its urban promotion site at Typhoo Wharf, including the pre-let and forward funding of Phase 1 to create new built-to-suit studios and offices for BBC West Midlands;
- advising Nurton Developments on all real estate matters relating to Branston Locks, a major multi-use urban extension to Burton-on-Trent. This involved the initial land purchase, site set-up, infrastructure creation and phased disposal of serviced residential development parcels to national housebuilders, together with the delivery of the first 500,000 square feet of employment development; and
- advising Feldberg Capital on the development aspects of a new joint venture with Henry Boot Developments, created using £100m of seed properties, including one of the most contaminated sites in Europe. The new platform is aiming for £1bn in developments over the next seven years.
I joined Shoosmiths in 2004 from a global firm and became a partner in 2012.
