Shoosmiths is delighted to announce the arrival of Emma Carr to the firm’s Commercial Litigation practice in Birmingham.

Emma joins from Gowling WLG where she was a partner in the firm’s Commercial Litigation team and led its litigation finance practice. She brings with her over two decades of experience advising organisations on complex, high-value and business-critical disputes, involving significant financial, operational and reputational risks. She has acted for public and private sector clients across a broad range of industries and is recognised for her practical, commercially focused approach to dispute resolution.
Emma has been recognised by Legal 500 as a “Next Generation Partner” and ranked as “Up and Coming” in Chambers UK 2026.
Emma’s core work centres on commercial disputes, litigation funding and high-value negligence claims. She advises clients on a broad range of matters, including complex contractual disputes, professional negligence claims, shareholder disputes, governance issues, warranty claims and public sector and procurement disputes. Emma works closely with boards, senior executives, General Counsel and in-house legal teams to help them manage litigation risk, resolve disputes efficiently and achieve outcomes aligned with their wider commercial objectives. She is also recognised for her expertise in litigation funding, advising clients on funding arrangements and strategies that support the effective resolution of disputes.
