Our national planning team has once again been recognised among the UK’s leading planning law practices, achieving a top 10 position in Planning Resource’s Planning Law Survey 2026, ranking joint ninth.
Published: 29 June 2026
The Planning Law Survey is a respected industry benchmark, drawing on direct feedback from planning professionals across the sector – including local authorities, consultants, developers, solicitors, and officials from central government and national agencies – who nominate the barristers and solicitors they consider to demonstrate best practice.
The latest ranking reflects the continued strength and depth of the Shoosmiths planning team in a competitive and fast-evolving market. The team remains known for providing commercially focused, forward-thinking advice across a wide range of developments – from urban regeneration schemes to complex environmental and infrastructure projects.
This recognition also aligns with our wider Real Estate strategy, as we continue to invest in our planning capabilities to support long-term growth and strengthen our position as a market-leading, full-service real estate practice.
The ranking comes at a time of evolution for the team, with Sarah Fitzpatrick stepping into the role of Head of Planning, marking an exciting new chapter as the team continues to build on its strong foundation and reputation in the market. Sarah’s appointment forms part of sustained, strategic investment in Shoosmiths’ Planning practice, including the promotion of Matt Nixon to Partner in March 2026.
Sarah Fitzpatrick, Head of Planning, said: “I’m incredibly proud that Shoosmiths has retained its place in the top 10 of the annual planning law firms survey. This reflects the strength and depth of our nationwide team, as well as the trust our incredible clients place in us to deliver results.”.
