Philip Williams joins the Litigation, Regulatory & Compliance team as the firm continues to invest in Financial Services as a priority sector.
Published: 2 November 2026
Williams joins Shoosmiths from DLA Piper, bringing specialist expertise in payments, fintech and insurance, alongside extensive experience handling complex financial services and commercial disputes.
For the last decade, Williams’ international practice has focussed on advising leading financial services and technology businesses at the cutting-edge of the fast-growing payments sector, and advising on specialist insurance business transfers; expertise that saw him recognised in the 2024 Chambers FinTech Guide.
Alex Bishop, lead Partner of Shoosmiths’ Litigation, Regulatory & Compliance practice, said: “Philip is an accomplished financial services litigator with extensive experience spanning payments, fintech and insurance, major banking disputes (including acting on a matter valued at approximately £900 million) and complex international work.
“Financial Services continues to be a key growth area for Shoosmiths, and Philip’s appointment strengthens our ability to support clients as they navigate regulatory change, technological innovation and increasingly complex disputes. We’re delighted to welcome him to the team.”
Commenting on his appointment, Williams said: “It’s an exciting time to be joining Shoosmiths as it continues to develop its financial services practice. The pace of change across payments, fintech and the wider financial services market is creating increasingly complex challenges and opportunities for clients, particularly as regulation and technology rapidly evolves.
“Shoosmiths’ ambition in the sector, combined with its collaborative approach and breadth of expertise, provides a strong platform to grow the practice. I’m looking forward to working with colleagues across the firm, developing existing and new client relationships and contributing to the continued growth of the team.”
Williams’ arrival follows the recent appointment of Caroline Tuck to Shoosmiths’ Litigation team, further strengthening the firm’s Litigation, Regulatory & Compliance offering. The hires demonstrate Shoosmiths’ continued investment in strategic growth areas and support the delivery of its 2030 Vision.
