PAVE UK brings together organisations from across the mobility ecosystem to build public trust and understanding of self-driving technology through research, education and engagement. As a member, Shoosmiths joins organisations including Wayve, Uber, Nissan, Acorn Group and the Motability Foundation, contributing its legal and sector expertise to discussions around regulation, liability, accessibility and consumer confidence.

Professor Siddartha Khastgir, Director of PAVE UK and Head of Safe Autonomy at WMG, University of Warwick, said: "At a pivotal moment for the UK self-driving vehicle ecosystem as the technology graduates to commercial deployment, we are delighted to welcome Acorn Group, the Motability Foundation and Shoosmiths. Together with our existing members, this new insurance, accessibility, and legal expertise focus, gives us a holistic view towards a responsible deployment of self-driving vehicle technology.”

The appointment follows further recognition for the firm's work in the sector. Shoosmiths was recently named winner of the Legal Award at the 2026 Cars of the Future Self-Driving Industry Awards, recognising its role in advising connected and automated mobility businesses and helping shape the UK's evolving regulatory framework for autonomous vehicles.

The award reflects Shoosmiths' contribution to industry bodies including techUK, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) and the UK Automotive Council, alongside its support for clients across the mobility ecosystem.

Cars of the Future editor Neil Kennett said: "As the legal and regulatory landscape for self-driving vehicles continues to evolve with the emergence of new technologies, Shoosmiths has demonstrated a strong understanding of the issues facing the industry, supporting organisations as they navigate an increasingly complex legal landscape. The judging panel was pleased to recognise that contribution with this year's Legal Award."

Supporting the future of mobility

Ben Gardner, Partner in Shoosmiths' Commercial Group, said: "Joining PAVE UK and receiving this industry recognition are important milestones for our mobility sector team. Together, they reflect our continued commitment to helping clients navigate the legal and regulatory challenges associated with self-driving technology and supporting the responsible growth of the sector.

"With the industry moving closer to commercial deployment, we look forward to working alongside fellow PAVE UK members and continuing to support innovative mobility projects in the UK and internationally."

Together, these milestones reinforce Shoosmiths' continued growth across its Mobility, Logistics and Manufacturing sector.
