At our Manchester office, we brought charities, employers and partners together for the Partnerships with Purpose North West Conference, hosted with Only a Pavement Away. The focus was simple and practical: creating real routes into employment for people experiencing homelessness, using the hospitality sector as a platform to rebuild lives through meaningful work.

The conference explored and showcased how businesses can play a practical and positive role in helping people rebuild their lives. Through open discussion and shared learning, attendees examined the barriers people face when trying to access work and the difference that supportive, inclusive employment pathways can make.
The event highlighted the importance of collaboration between charities, employers and wider networks in creating sustainable outcomes. Speakers shared perspectives on how access to learning, work experience and long term support can help break cycles of exclusion, while also strengthening businesses and local communities.
Hosting the conference was an example of Shoosmiths’ approach to responsible business. By opening our doors and using our space to convene conversations, we help connect organisations, ideas and opportunities that drive real social impact.
The day also reinforced the value of partnerships built on shared purpose. When businesses and charities work together in a way that is intentional and long term, the impact goes beyond individual initiatives and contributes to lasting change.
We are proud to have supported Only A Pavement Away and look forward to continuing our work with them and other partners who are committed to creating opportunities, unlocking potential and supporting people to move forward with dignity and independence.
