His client base spans property owners, developers, employers, contractors and professionals, who seek his advice both on project delivery and on dealing with defects in completed buildings. Peter is adept at devising strategies to avoid or minimise disputes and has particular expertise in the use of adjudication, as well as strength in litigation, arbitration, expert determination and mediation.
Joe Mazzucca, Partner and Head of Real Estate, said: “We’re seeing increasing demand from clients in key areas across the real estate sector, including construction. Peter’s appointment reflects our continued investment in our Real Estate practice to meet this demand, and builds on an already strong and sizeable platform in the market. His hire is a strategic step in expanding our Construction team in London and puts us closer to meeting our ambitious 2030 objectives.
“His experience, particularly on contentious matters, further enhances our ability to support clients across the full lifecycle of their projects and creates opportunities to deepen relationships in London and nationally. We’re delighted to have him on board.”
Peter Stockill said: “I’m thrilled to join Shoosmiths’ Construction practice. The team has an excellent reputation, with deep expertise and a strong client base, and I look forward to contributing to build on that success.”
Peter’s hire continues strong momentum across Shoosmiths’ Real Estate pillar, building depth in key areas as the firm focuses on higher-value, more complex matters. He follows several recent partner appointments, including planning lawyer Sarah Fitzpatrick, real estate finance lawyer James Salford and commercial real estate partners Jasvinder Sahotay and Simon Collis, as well as Christine Burrows and Matt Nixon’s promotions to partner in construction and planning, respectively. The firm expects to make further partner hires across its Real Estate team in the coming months as it continues to invest in priority areas for growth.
Shoosmiths also continues strong growth in London, adding nearly 20 partners since April 2025, including IP lawyer France Delord, PE lawyers Alison Chivers and Tim Nye, and technology lawyer Sarah Reynolds. These appointments deepen capabilities across Shoosmiths’ three core practices in Corporate, Litigation and Real Estate and underline the firm’s strength in key sectors.
