‘Hasta la (physical) visa’

Some visa holders can view their digital status through their UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account. This account allows them to see their immigration status, update personal information and share their status with others.

Employers may have noticed that their employees with Biometric Residence Permits (BRP) all have the same expiry date – December 2024. Starting in April 2024, the Home Office will contact existing BRP holders without a UKVI account and new visa applicants to create a UKVI account before the end of the year.

This is part of the Home Office's ongoing effort to digitalise visa statuses, as all physical BRP cards will expire at the end of 2024. The Home Office will use email and other communication channels to inform customers of the need to create an account before their BRP cards expire.

BRP holders should double check that their contact details are up to date with UKVI to ensure they do not miss these updates from the Home Office.
