I spoke with a client yesterday who left me feeling very humbled. She is in her thirties and suffered a catastrophic brain injury in a road traffic accident several years ago. She reminded me that she was a pro at lockdown life, having lived through the early years of her rehab post accident in very confined conditions. She felt the months in hospital, followed by intensive rehab and the complete loss of her independence from her old life, meant that living in lockdown, as the pandemic has imposed on us, is not new or - in her words - particularly difficult for her.
This left me thinking about the impact that the pandemic has had on me and how many of us have struggled with the impacts to our lives. I am inspired daily by the determination of my clients, who have all had their lives impacted by injury or illness in some way, often with no warning or having had any control over this.
I came across this series from brain injury Charity Headway which shares some useful tips for those experiencing isolation as a result of the pandemic, written by experts in the field of life altering circumstances. I will be taking some of these tips on board, whilst also drawing on the experience of my own clients.
