Ofcom sounds the death-knell for ye olde copper network

As someone who is proudly nostalgic about the good old days when (1) PC modems sang a charming tune when dialling-up and (2) the excitement built as a single image loaded line by line over five minutes, today's confirmation by Ofcom that it will not be imposing any price caps on fibre services means that my dream fades even further into the history books.

Why? Because immediately following Ofcom's announcement, BT gave the green light to a £12 billion investment in its fibre network and it is almost certain that other existing operators and new entrants to the market will shortly follow suit.

Great news for UK plc's connectivity, operators and investors alike! But come on, admit it; even you secretly miss that dialling tune...
