Shoosmiths' key takeaways from innovation in sustainable transport roundtable

Michelle Craven-Faulkner, Partner and Rail Sector Lead participated in a roundtable in Birmingham last month hosted by Insider Media Limited, which was focused on the challenges, obstacles and opportunities supply chains face when looking at how manufacturing is adapting and innovating to bring forward the green revolution in transport.

Michelle joined a team of experts and leading players from the mobility sector covering rail, automotive and aerospace.

Below, we reveal our key takeaways from the event:

Modern societies demand top-class transport infrastructure. It is essential to have a transport system that, while adapted to current needs, is respectful of the health of the planet and of people to avoid compromising sustainable development.

“Innovation needs to be a culture, not a department.”

Government support needs to be better signposted on funding research and development (R&D) and for that R&D to be better thought through.

Infrastructure needs to be more developed, better harnessing greener sources of fuel and energy.

More apparent upskilling in workforce to better equip them for the sector moving forward.
