The UK-India trade agreement has been negotiated, but the details remain to be scripted and the draft agreement will need to be laid before the UK parliament for approval (with India pursuing in parallel its own ratification process).
The current expectation is that the agreement would enter into force before the end of this year.
Other than a reduction in tariffs, the negotiations addressed a number of topics, such as intellectual property, rights to work, opening up government procurement and phytosanitary issues. Our India Business Desk team (Kiran Desai, Sanjeev Sharma, Amit Nayyar, Prakash Keri, Manu Mohan and Ami Bhatt) will be keeping an eye on progress and communicating to clients on issues relevant to them.
