Shoosmiths at UKREiiF 2024
Shoosmiths will be attending and taking part in UKREiiF 2024.
A multidisciplinary team will be returning to this year’s conference in Leeds, with Shoosmiths’ delegation comprising specialists from various fields including planning, construction, real estate investment, development, the living sector, as well as energy and infrastructure.
From Shoosmiths’ involvement with a new commission aimed at tackling England’s housing shortage, to the firm’s expertise advising on major renewable power purchase agreements, the delegation will be sharing their latest insight on the real estate market, key legislation, and helping deliver some of the UK’s most ambitious investment and development projects.

Discussing purpose-built student accommodation’s journey to a £100bn sector
Daniel Halstead, real estate partner at Shoosmiths, will be chairing a panel discussion on unlocking more purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) development in the UK
This follows new data from Knight Frank revealing that the value of the UK’s purpose-built student accommodation sector could reach £104bn by 2028 – up from £85.8bn in 2023.
The session will focus on several key factors including streamlining the planning system, navigating the investment landscape and adapting to meet the changing needs of students.

Joining EG for a panel discussion on impact investment
Following supporting EG’s MIPIM 2024 programme, Shoosmiths is partnering with the media title on UKREiiF 2024. This includes Kellie Hatton, real estate partner, participating in a panel discussion on impact investment.
The session – impact investment: transforming lives, enhancing opportunities – will examine public and private sector strategies, focusing on how real estate can positively impact the economy, society, communities and the environment.

Co-hosting a roundtable with GRI Club on the investment market
Shoosmiths is also partnering with the GRI Club, a real estate networking platform, to co-host a roundtable discussion exploring the current state of the UK real estate investment market and the emerging risks that have the potential to impact the deployment of capital.
Experts from the firm’s real estate investment group will be taking part in the discussion, including real estate partners Patrick Duffy, Kate McCall and Brian Hession.

Solving the housing shortage with Bidwells
Real estate partner and living sector co-head at Shoosmiths, Lisa Tye, will also be taking part in an open panel discussion, hosted by consultants Bidwells, exploring the housing shortage.
The discussion will examine addressing inadequate housing supply and the impact this has on access to education and employment opportunities.

Evidence gathering with Radix Big Tent Housing Commission
As part of Shoosmiths’ involvement with a Commission aiming to tackle England’s housing shortage - led by think tank, Radix, and chaired by Dame Kate Barker CBE – the firm is hosting an evidence gathering session at UKREiiF. The session will bring together market experts to discuss freeing up land for development and specialist housing. This will take place at Shoosmiths’ Leeds office on 23 May.

Cycling in a bid to transform lives
Shoosmiths legal director, Matt Nixon, will be taking part in the cycle to UKREiiF 2024 event.
The charity cycle, organised by Club Peloton, will see riders from across the property industry completing either two journeys to the conference, starting in Oxford or Edinburgh.
Matt will be embarking with fellow riders on the South West/Oxford route, completing a 403km journey to the conference in Leeds, with 5,467m of climbing - all to help transform the lives of vulnerable young people, with the charity providing £4.8m in grants since 2006.
The three-day ride starts on Saturday 18 May, with both routes joining just outside of Leeds on the day before UKREiiF 2024 begins. Please support Matt's fundraising efforts.
