Shoosmiths advise on Hilco Capital's strategic backing of Management and buyout of homewares retailer Lakeland

Law firm Shoosmiths has advised Hilco Capital on the acquisition of Lakeland, the renowned family-owned homewares retailer.

Hilco Capital, the pre-eminent investor known for its numerous successful high street turnarounds, entered into advanced talks with Lakeland's management and shareholders to finalise the management buyout following a search for new investment. The deal will see Hilco Capital provide  a comprehensive new funding package to support the company's future strategy and operations.

Lakeland, founded in 1964, has been a staple in the UK homewares market for over six decades. The company employs approximately 1,000 people across nearly 60 stores, with its head office based in Windermere, The Lake District. Lakeland maintains a loyal customer base with its extensive range of home, cookery, and electrical products as well as being an iconic high street brand.

The acquisition will enable Lakeland to refinance its existing debt and provides additional working capital. 

A multi-disciplinary team of experts from Shoosmiths, led by Corporate Restructuring & Advisory (CR&A) Legal Director Tom Swain advised on the deal, including partners Richard Bellamy (CR&A Real Estate lead) and Natalie Barnes (Banking & Finance lead) with support from Senior Associates Louise Snipe from CR&A and Leonie Byrne from CR&A Real Estate, Senior Associate Kieran Cummins and Associate Shaun Piesley from Banking & Finance, Principal Associates Charlotte Cannell and Nick Little, and Associates Hugh White, Sharon Nicholls and Jai Pannum from Corporate.
