Shoosmiths helps Proximity’s acquisition strategy to surge ahead

Shoosmiths has advised Proximity Data Centres on its latest acquisition in Milton Keynes, adding a tenth data centre to its rapidly expanding portfolio.

The milestone deal sees Proximity, one of the UK’s fastest growing regional data centre companies, open a new 3.2 acre facility in Milton Keynes, with 3 MW of available power.

This latest opening takes the total amount of space Shoosmiths has helped Proximity to acquire to over 300,000 sq ft, including sites in Birmingham, Liverpool and Chester.

The law firm’s partnership with the data centre provider spans over three years.

Shoosmiths has advised on real estate, construction, banking, employment and corporate matters, helping Proximity to progress its strategy of establishing a nationwide network of highly-connected regional edge data centres in close proximity to 95 per cent of the UK population.

John Hall, managing director - Colocation at Proximity Data Centres, said:

“Over the years the expert legal advice, responsiveness and professionalism of the Shoosmiths team has remained invaluable. They will continue to play a key role in helping us to execute our proven rapid acquisition strategy as we look to double the size of our edge data centre portfolio over the next 12-18 months.”

Leading the team advising Proximity at Shoosmiths is real estate partner Liam Phillips, supported by Dan Stamford, Alistair Hammerton, Mandeep Vryaparj, Michelle Morgan, Richard Baker, David Adams and Imran Cousins.

Liam Phillips, real estate partner at Shoosmiths, commented:

“Proximity’s services form a key part of the UK’s digital infrastructure. It has been a privilege supporting the firm’s journey so far, working alongside its team to acquire and bring online a network of centres that are strategically located and tailored to suit regional demand.
“Shoosmiths has a flourishing reputation advising the data centre sector. Our long-term partnership with Proximity shows the legal expertise that we bring to the table and the collaborative approach taken by our various specialist teams.

“We’re looking forward to further assisting Proximity as it expands its network of regional data centres across the UK, with several new sites already in the pipeline.”
