Nottingham colleague completes the Snowdon challenge in aid of the Alzheimers Society

Nottingham colleague Hari Singh recently completed a challenge for charity. ‘I decided to take on the Snowdon challenge to support Alzheimer’s Society as my grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s 2012. It was her 86th birthday on June 92018, the day of the trek, and therefore a present to her. She said she would have preferred cash!

The trek took place at midnight and with my head torch, I was only ever able to see three metres in front of me. Trekking in the dark had its positives, in that I wasn’t daunted by how far I had to go because I couldn’t see that far ahead. But at the same time, I couldn’t see that far ahead and came very close to some steep drops!

The higher I climbed, the more difficult it became. Loose rocks were giving way underneath me, and more than once I struggled to keep my footing. A mile away from the summit my legs were feeling the strain but a burst of cold spray and two paracetamols later I was back on my way. I soon realised small steps and to just keep moving forward were the key to reaching the summit. After two and half hours of trekking I succeeded and accomplished my challenge reaching the summit exhausted but happy.

I raised £592 including a £150 donation from Shoosmiths. Thank you to everyone who supported me with advice and donations.’
