Shoosmiths Leeds supported Candlelighters by donating to new patient support packs

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a massive impact on Candlelighters’ ability to support families in the usual “face to face” way, so Candlelighters has introduced new patient support packs so that they can still connect with patients and families at an early stage and provide support to patients and their families remotely.

The new patient support packs are for children who have very recently been diagnosed with cancer but, because of the pandemic, are unable to access the usual “face to face” contact they have with the Candlelighters team. The packs are vital in enabling Candlelighters support newly diagnosed patients and their families.

The Shoosmiths Leeds office were able to donate the tote bags and stress balls for inclusion in 150 new patient packs, with the items being sourced from local Leeds businesses.

Gina Trotter, Corporate Partnerships Executive from Candlelighters said “We have done some research recently which showed that from June 2019- June 2020, 100% of families with a child diagnosed with cancer at the Leeds Children’s Hospital accessed Candlelighters support in some way. We are so determined to keep up this high level of families accessing support and we really hope these packs will enable Candlelighters to connect with families at a time when it is more challenging for us to have a physical presence.

Thank you for your support with this project!”
