Shoosmiths Milton Keynes employment team visit Bedford School Careers Fair

Amy Leech, Jessica Pearson and Lauren Moroney of the Milton Keynes Employment team visited Bedford School Employers’ Fair as part of the Milton Keynes office’s social mobility focus on providing insights and experience to school-aged children.

On Friday 16 June 2023, Bedford School opened its doors to a variety of local employers to give students from Bedford School and other local schools the opportunity to expand their understanding of the potential career paths available to them, develop their career ambitions, and start building their professional network with prospective employers.

Approximately 570 people attended the event, with over 350 students coming from Bedford School as well as 220 students and parents from other local schools, including both fee paying and state schools.

Alongside Shoosmiths representatives, a diverse range of employers were present at the fair. Attendees included the NHS, Bedfordshire Police, Anglian Water, Centre Parcs, and the Royal Air Force to name a few.

Students spent the afternoon networking with representatives from a variety of different industries which gave them the opportunity to consider different career paths, have their questions answered, and find out what qualifications and experience they may need in order to fulfil their future ambitions.

Careers and UCAS Coordinator Emily Fox-Johnson thanked Shoosmiths representatives for attending the Employer’s fair and for speaking so knowledgably and enthusiastically to the students and parents. This was the first time Bedford School has hosted a careers fair and the school was delighted at the success of the event.

Amy and Lauren are part of the Milton Keynes office’s Social Mobility Working Group, who have a focus on supporting local schools. Representatives from the group are looking forward to working with more local secondary schools in the future, with an aim of inspiring and preparing school leavers for the world of work through hosting insight afternoons, careers talks, and offering work placements to students.
