Shoosmiths has recently published its second annual statement setting out the steps we have taken within our operations and supply chain to determine any incidences of slavery and human trafficking.
The UK National Crime Agency believes that the previously estimated 10,000 – 13,000 victims in the UK alone are the tip of the ice berg – with more than 300 live policing operations and therefore cases affecting every large town and city in the country.
Sadly slavery and human trafficking is a global problem of unprecedented magnitude – more than 40 million victims estimated.
International Human Rights Day is observed every year on 10 December marking the date in 1948 when the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted, a milestone document that proclaimed the inalienable rights which everyone inherently entitled to as a human being – regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other statement.
