Thrive uses gardening to bring about positive changes in the lives of people living with disabilities or ill health, or who are isolated, disadvantaged or vulnerable.
The charity is dedicated and passionate about the health benefits that gardening, horticulture and spending time in nature can bring and its aim is to ensure that people with varying needs have the opportunity to access therapeutic gardening and horticulture programmes. Thrive have gardens in Reading, London and Birmingham.
The talent acquisition team at Shoosmiths spent a day in October 2023 at Thrive in Birmingham helping to aerate compost, paint a shed, rake and tidy areas of the garden, paint posts, weed plots, and more.
Everyone at Shoosmiths is encouraged to volunteer in the community, to make a meaningful difference, and to support causes that align with our business priorities and ESG commitments.
Regional Operations Manager – Birmingham, Sarah Bowers explained ‘The team worked incredibly hard and got involved in lots of different tasks including compost digging in the mature garden, lots of painting – green shed, white plant markers, info posts and display structures, swept and weeded glasshouse three, potted up succulents and weeded the vegetable plot to name just a few. The team were enthusiastic and ended the day dirty, achy but with a smile on their faces!’
