Shoosmiths Supports #Giving Tuesday 2nd December 2014

We are supporting #Giving Tuesday today and were one of the early companies to sign up.

The campaign brings together large corporations, small businesses, charities and the public to do charitable things and there are more than 650 supporting organisations.

What is Shoosmiths doing?

Our volunteering policy enables us to volunteer one day a year during work time and colleagues are being reminded of this.

We provide legal advice on a pro bono basis to individuals and charities unable to afford to pay for legal advice.

Today Basingstoke colleagues are collecting food items today for the Basingstoke Foodbank which in the last 12 months has provided 2,400 meals for local people in crisis.

Macmillan Cancer Support, one of our former corporate charity partners, invites people to register to support its e-campaigns enabling supporters to sign up to appropriate initiatives.

And we are in the midst of our annual silent auction, raising funds to support two Family Services Practitioners at Winston’s Wish.

With 145 lots to choose from colleagues are offering to donate unwanted gifts or their time. Lots of time are varied including tea making, home made food such as a five course meal served in the winner’s home, cakes, Christmas puddings, preserves and chutneys, meat stuffing – USA style-, dog walking and airport running, artwork, family history research, yoga lessons, embroidery or a golfing lesson to choose from. Colleagues are even offering letter writing to Father Christmas and gift wrapping services!!

In addition we have received some wonderful donations from suppliers, clients and supporters of Winston’s Wish including sport and leisure events and fixtures, technical gadgets, accommodation locations as far afield as Florida, and a selection of gorgeous cuddly toys.
