Shoosmiths takes part in Stop Food Waste Day

Shoosmiths took part in Stop Food Waste Day on 26 April 2023 and Denise Broome, assistant estates manager in our Northampton office was featured on our intranet.

Denise’s article explained to colleagues the scale of the challenge and highlighted food waste tips and recipe ideas under the themes of:

  • Buying too much food;
  • Planning your meals; and
  • Extending shelf life.

Denise went on to explain. ‘In the Northampton office all our food waste is collected for anaerobic digestion which makes bio methane, a renewable form of energy.

We’re very conscious when we hold events here at The Lakes. We're careful not to over order on food and we’re very conscious about how much food is wasted.  We’ll often put food out again the next day or give staff the opportunity to take it home in some boxes which we've started to provide.  Sometimes we use a network called Olio which is a food sharing group.  Olio assists you in sharing food (and other items) locally, as long as it’s in date and something you would still eat yourself, then you can give it away.’
