Paula is data privacy associate who advises clients on all aspects of data protection compliance under UK and EU law. She joined Shoosmiths in July 2022 having trained and qualified at a leading Irish law firm and after a period of working with the Irish data protection regulator.

She has extensive experience in carrying out data protection impact assessments and advising on large scale, often controversial, processing activities, including relating to DNA testing, CCTV in the workplace, the use of body-worn cameras by public officials, high performance computing and the retention of telecoms data.

Her data protection experience includes acting for internationally recognised companies, advising on GDPR compliance solutions, records of processing activities, data processing agreements and international data transfer mechanisms.

Paula is experienced in responding to DSARs, drafting policies, advising on data breaches and notification thresholds, including breaches involving high risk special category data. She advises on PECR compliance, including cookie notices and appropriate marketing consent language. Her work has included advising DPOs on their obligations and key areas of focus for regulators.
