Shoosmiths appoints new head of housebuilding

Peter Marsden has been appointed as Shoosmiths’ new head of housebuilding.

Peter joined Shoosmiths as a partner in 2023, bringing with him extensive experience from both private practice and in-house roles at leading housebuilders including Taylor Wimpey and Harrow Estates - part of Redrow.

As head of housebuilding, Peter will lead the evolution of Shoosmiths’ offering in the sector - working closely with the firm’s specialist strategic land practice, led by Thomas Hall, to assist national clients such as Barratt Redrow, Bellway, Taylor Wimpey, and Vistry.

Jason Jackson, partner and head of real estate clients and markets at Shoosmiths, said:

“Housebuilding is a cornerstone of Shoosmiths’ living sector – a national team of expert lawyers recently recognised as Residential Legal Team of the Year at the RESI Awards.

“Since joining, Peter has brought a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing housebuilders today. His vast, first-hand experience gives him a unique perspective on client needs, making him the ideal person to lead this team into its next chapter.”

Judy Fawcett, partner and living sector co-head at Shoosmiths, added:

“Shoosmiths is deeply embedded in the housebuilding market. For us, the sector’s success is personal. Our involvement in initiatives like the Radix Housing Commission reflects our commitment to driving positive change and accelerating residential delivery. With Peter’s leadership, we’re harnessing recent successes - from award wins to key client reappointments - and continuing to deliver pragmatic, solutions-focused legal support.”

Peter Marsden, partner and head of housebuilding at Shoosmiths, said:

“I’m proud to take on this role at such a pivotal time for the sector. Shoosmiths has a strong reputation in housebuilding, and I’m excited to build on that - working with and expanding our talented team to deliver practical, commercially-minded advice that helps our clients navigate change and seize opportunities. The success of this practice is rooted in the success of our clients; that’s why we’re focused on evolving our approach - working in partnership to help realise their objectives and deliver quality new homes across the UK.”
