New How: Green recovery

Working towards a brighter, greener and more prosperous future

As we look at economic recovery from the pandemic, and new ways of doing things for a new age, we are presented with the ideal opportunity for a green recovery.

Since 2012 Shoosmiths has published its sustainability progress annually. We are committed to becoming a carbon neutral business with a target for our operations to achieve net zero emissions by 2025, and we have more recently signed up to the Science Based Targets initiative – committing to set science-based emissions reduction targets across the entire value chain that are consistent with keeping global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. Businesses have a key part to play in driving the carbon net zero agenda and it is important to us that our clients can say they select suppliers who share aligned carbon neutral goals.

With the government drive towards carbon net zero, and a vested interest from stakeholders across the board – investors, customers, employees, suppliers and communities – the time is ripe for businesses to establish, or revisit, their sustainability strategies to ensure tangible outcomes. At Shoosmiths, we recognise that while the net zero challenge is one we all face, organisations start from different positions. There is no one size fits all approach.

Our New How initiative is intended to evoke dialogue between clients and gain insight from industry leaders, so together we can share best practice and find new approaches to tackling issues and, ultimately, emerge from the pandemic, ‘smarter, faster, better’. Collaboration can aid businesses immensely in achieving carbon net zero goals and we are keen to work with our clients to help deliver opportunities for a brighter, greener and more prosperous future. Through our insights, webinars, roundtables and thought leadership reports we hope to provide information, ideas and inspiration to businesses to act – while being realistic to the challenges.

Sustainability is top of the agenda for many, if not all, businesses. As our clients were keen to share ideas it was the topic for discussion at the Spring 2021 Shoosmiths senior leaders’ client roundtables series.
